This easy gluten free pizza dough recipe is sure to please the whole family. Simply mix the homemade dough, add your favorite toppings, and dig in! Who’s ready for pizza night?
Some weeks I don’t take the time to meal plan. Then, when it’s about time to start making dinner I have no clue what to make. (This happens every time I skip meal planning for the week… anyone else!?)
Enter homemade pizza! This recipe is on my list of favorites for when I want to whip up something simple for dinner. It’s easy to make with standard ingredients and comes together quickly. A definite win!
Sometimes recipes for gluten free pizza turn out with a crust that crumbles to pieces under the weight of toppings. Other times, recipes turn out wayyy too chewy. Yuck. Pizza is my son’s favorite meal, so I’ve had plenty of chances to get this recipe just right.
This pizza dough recipe is light yet sturdy- it holds toppings without falling apart when it’s lifted! It has a soft base and a crispy outer crust. You’re going to love it!
Gather the Ingredients
These ingredients are gluten free and dairy free, but always check the labels to make sure!
- 3 cups 1-to-1 gluten free all-purpose flour (with xanthan gum included, I use Bob’s Red Mill)
- 1 heaping Tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1 1/3 cup warm water (90°F to 100°F)
- 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil (for brushing)
How to Make the Best Gluten Free Pizza Dough Recipe
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the dry ingredients.
[A note about measuring gluten free flour: The most accurate way to measure flour is to spoon the flour into a measuring cup. Scrape a knife across the top of the measuring cup to level the flour. Do not pack it into the measuring cup or the dough will turn out too dry.]
After you’ve combined the gluten free flour, baking powder, and sea salt, add the extra virgin olive oil, honey, and warm water. Mix on low speed until combined, and then raise the mixer speed to medium. Mix for 5 minutes. As it mixes, lightly oil a separate bowl with extra virgin olive oil or a non-stick spray.
5 Minutes Later…
Transfer your dough to the oiled bowl and cover with a clean hand towel, a silicone bowl cover, or plastic wrap. Place it in the refrigerator to chill for about 10 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
10 Minutes Later…
Cover your pizza pan with non-stick spray. You can use a round pizza pan or a rimmed 13”x18” baking sheet for this recipe. I have not tried this recipe with a pizza stone- if you do, let me know how it works out!
Press the dough out with your fingers (spray your fingers if it gets too sticky!) and cover the sheet completely. This is an excellent job for children!
Lightly brush that extra teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil on the top of the crust, and then bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
Remove it from the oven…
Carefully (the pan is hot!) add pizza sauce and your favorite toppings. It is normal for the crust to have some cracks developing.
Put the pizza back into the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and starting to brown. (I like to turn on the broiler for a few minutes at the end, but it’s up to you if you’d like to do that or not.) Enjoy!
